Wedding cushion's

This month I got a lovely request from a customer through Not On The High Street to create an Ampersand cushion with her Son and future daughter-in-laws initials.
The customer liked my Alphabet cushion available on the site.
This is quickly becoming one of my best selling products especially for boys!!
The customer hoped I could make three for her Son's wedding but of course using different fabric.
The theme of the wedding was a bit of a country/vintage/ theme and the idea was to have these cushions on display as a surprise for the Bride and Groom.
So I sent some fabric ideas.
This was probably too much choice and it took a while to decide but I am sure we came up with the best choice and I was so thrilled with the finished result.
The customer loved them so much and wrote me such a kind email here's a snippet......

I could not ask for better praise from a customer so delighted she was happy with them!

I also suggested adding the wedding date and couples name and this worked really well.

I used this pretty fabric on the back of all the cushions and of course my lovely 'My poppet Petite' labels stitched to each one.

Contact me if you would like something similar the cushions have a zip opening filled with a feather cushion pad and the size 35x35cm (14x14") they are available in my shop.

Green and Yellow

Well two weeks ago a lovely Etsy customer contacted me she liked two cushions I had in my Etsy shop but wanted to give them as a gift to a friend who loves Green and Yellow. These colour combinations don't really feature in my collection but that was not a problem I was happy to make this unique  order, and she was thrilled with the results.
The customer wanted one of my Home appliqué cushions along with a Suffolk puff cushion.
These suffolk puff cushions are so tactile and have real impact mixed in with other prints and appliqué cushions.
So be confident with your colour and be bold with your cushions, these two cushions look great and I would get some other printed cushions to mix in with them just to add some other elements of colour. These two cushions are not holding back on the colour and as the customer said 'she can't wait to give them as a gift'
Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you want a very unique order and have special colour or fabric requirements I will be happy to help and you won't find anything like it on the high street.
To see more of my products head to my Etsy shop or my not on the high street shop.

Create with clay

I am doing a series of blogs heading up to 1/2 term to give you some great ideas of things to do with your kids.
This is a great little project to do at the start of the week. You use air drying clay available at most good craft or art supply shops, it takes a good 48 hours to dry so plan do do this early in the week so that you can finish them with paint at the end of the week.

You will need:
Das Modelling clay in white
Rolling pins but not your special home baking one just a cheap one for kids play dough etc!!
Items to print with wood blocks, lace textured items.
Shape cutters
Paint
Varnish
Ribbon.

Make sure you put paper down and really keep everything away from your best furniture this can get a bit messy!
You need to add water to the clay to make it pliable, then roll it out and cut various shapes.
We did lots of hearts and some stars and butterflies.
Then we used various printing blocks and lace to add pattern.
We have picked up lots of lovely Indian printing blocks on our travels but you can use all kinds of materials to leave an imprint on the clay such as leaves buttons jewellery chains etc..
Once you have made all your shapes make sure you have made an ideal hole for the ribbon to fit through once they are all finished.
Then leave them all to dry on a tray that you have protected with cling film or tin foil. This will take at least 48 hours but if you have your central heating on already maybe not so long!
Once they are all completely dry you can get started with the painting. I tried to direct the kids with colour choice and got them to imagine that we were making them for a shop so needed to be beautifully made and painted.
We picked some lovely pastel colours we used gouache but you can use regular kids poster paint or household paint.

Make sure you paint the whole thing leave one side to dry for 30 mins then paint the back side in the same colour.
Leave them all to dry then give them a coat of matt varnish to give them a professional finish!
When they are all painted the wonderful patterns really stand out well.

For the very finishing touches put ribbons through the holes in various colours and then you are all finished. You have some lovely hanging clay decorations that make a wonderful gift.
The kids were so pleased with them that they even plan to send Daddy to work with them to sell for a £1 how industrious
Of them!  And Naomi has already given one to her teacher.

You could make these for Christmas using lots of lovely bright red and white paint! Have a go with your kids I am sure they will love this craft.
Happy creating and do comment and let me know how you get on creating with your kids. X
See you back here soon

It's been a while

It's been so long since I last posted on my blog, perhaps because I've been a little distracted by a wonderful little boy who has brought so much Joy to our family and will be two years old this coming November.
I can't believe where the time has gone I think since he's my third child life is so very busy you barely have a moment to stop.

We moved house last year and Caleb started school and Naomi changed school so there has been a lot of transition for the kids and for us making new friends and getting to know our town of Market Harborough a little better.
My children seem to be growing up so fast and we have got busier taking them to clubs and activities in the week.
But as Joshua is getting bigger now and sleeping through the night it is giving me the creative space I need to devote to my business again and begin making and designing new things.
So in the coming weeks I'll share with you new things I have made and new things we are doing as a family, creative crafts, sewing, baking, country nature walks, shopping, magazines, vintage finds and generally anything that is interesting me and my family.

So come along with me and get inspired by all that we are doing and see my small business 'my poppet petite' grow as I begin to create new product for www.notonthehighstreet.com
And my etsy shop.

So will meet you back here very soon. X

Love

Some time ago I began working on these pictures using vintage linens as a base to begin, it started out with this love picture which we now have framed in our home I also continued to make more word pictures and gave them as gifts or commissions, along with my childrens names you can see these on our website if you follow this link http://www.mypoppetpetite.com/page6.htm

I then decided it would be really nice to make these heart picture's, we showed them at the Country Living exhibition and there was a wonderful response to them, people just wanted to buy them even if it was just for themselves it did not seem to matter, but since we are approaching Valentines day I quickly thought I should get these on my Etsy shop since each one is a one off and unique and would make the perfect gift for a loved one!!!

You could also buy one for a friend or someone who is getting married I would be happy to add a personal touch to one for you, for example the couples name's wedding date etc....

Or how about one for a close friend a special birthday or just to say thank you

Given plenty of time I am always happy to work with people to produce something just right

Its the month of love but I don't think you need valentines day to tell someone how much you love them sometimes its even more special to just do something romantic without prompting.

I Love you Davinder x

I went away some time ago to a women's conference at The Abundant Life Church in Bradford it was a fantastic time away for me and in some ways a significant time for me to change my outlook about what I could do in my community no matter how big or small that might be.
it was a time when I realised I could really get My Poppet Petite off the ground but also realise even as a busy Mum I could achieve a lot with the right outlook, for myself and for others.

At the conference we got these beautiful hearts you can almost see it says 'Urban Angel' on the side, and this was the theme for that conference.
It now hangs on our wall in the lounge and it reminds me of what I believe God wants me to be like, to be an urban angel in my community to look out for people, to show love, care for others, check in with people, maybe its just a simple phone call, text or maybe its making someone a meal, baking a cake, baby sitting for a single Mum or a couple who struggle to get date nights. What ever it is it can be very simple to reach people no matter how busy you might be.

Also if you are one of those people who does not receive very well who tries to get by with no help well don't be. I have often given help to people who I know will never ask for help. and I really wish they would it can be really rewarding to give someone a helping hand to take their kids for the afternoon or babysit, so if someone is offering, take it and be blessed.

Anyway I really hope you will be inspired to be an 'Urban Angel' and I hope your inspired to show love to those around you.
I hope you have a lovely Valentines day and are inspired to be romantic without prompting on many other days too, its good to say 'I love You'

The conference is a fantastic gathering of women and it is a brilliant encouraging time.

Embroidered Baby Muslin Squares

So What do you do when your one week overdue with baby and you need to busy yourself?

Well I decided to decorate my muslin squares with buttons and stitching!! and now no-one will
get theirs mixed up with mine at all those mother and baby groups. Experience has taught me
that this happens a lot but with a little decoration I will know which are mine.

Pick out a lovely selection of buttons vintage and new

And get stitching, some simple with just a few buttons and some more involved with
Applique and embroidery or a detailed picture.

I have had so much pleasure stitching these and my bump was very helpful
to rest my work on !!!

As you can tell I'm having a boy so the list is endless
You can stitch boats, cars, houses, hearts all in lovely
shades of blue, red and green.

Stitched Little Boat

Clusters of buttons, blanket stitched heart.

Can't wait to meet my Little Star...

Hurry up little baby, Mummy and Daddy and your big Sister and Brother
are very ready to meet you......

This is what clever Grandma arrived with a beautiful little hand knit jacket.
Can't wait to put him in it.
